Daria Ivanova

the contemporary

Daria Ivanova is a queer feminist artist who works with photography, illustration and film. She draws inspiration from expressionistic and experimental art. Her short films stand out due to their shadow play, rhythm, colours and playing with film as a medium. "My works emerge from fantasies, dreams and memories."

"As a queer feminist artist I am simultaneously illustrator, filmmaker and photographer and work in the field of expressionistic and experimental art. Aesthetics are equally important to me as symbolism – the interplay of light and shadow, the interaction of different colours, a picture's rhythm – and equally important is the story that I am telling. My works emerge from imagination, fantasies, dreams and memories."

– Daria Ivanova

Her short film series "Metaporn" moves between pornographic and experimental cinema and examines auto-sexuality from various viewpoints. Her work focuses on the portrayal and performance of fantasies and dreams; funny and/or sensual short stories. The title "Meta" emphasises the work's meaning and shape that emerges from interworking with the told story. Her style follows a DIY (Do It Yourself) format and is reminiscent of author cinema. The films were produced in collaboration with Cirprine, the performer of this trilogy.
