Ivan is a queer (documentary) filmmaker. He began his career in pornography with his series "Porntraits", showing portraits of (gay) men and how they interact with their sexuality. The name "Porntraits" is a combintion of "porn" and "portraits". Ivan is keen to offer an authentic view of male sexuality, which he achieves very well through his honesty as a director.
In his series "Porntraits", Ivan Sobris focuses on the diversity of gay sexualities. By filming single men, couples or groups in sexual intimacy, he tries to capture the uniqueness, lust and beauty of their sex life. His sensitivity towards performers allows him to be part of very private moments and he captures these with his camera. This near tangible closeness provides his short films with a poetic flair.
