Mayr and Hase's short film "Car Love" is dedicated to the car as a fetish object. The term fetish is understood on the one hand as a commodity fetish according to Karl Marx and on the other hand as a sexual fetish according to Sigmund Freud. According to this theoretical perspective, the object car is more than just an object of daily use. Every day one enters a fusion with it to get from one place to another - incorporation and fetish are already inherent in the car, according to Mayr and Hase's thesis. The debut film atempts to reveal and precisely visualize this fetish character. Fetish and intimacy are central themes of this artistic project, which is highly topical especially in times of capitalism and neoliberalism. At the beginning, car and protagonist prepare for a journey. These preparations include, for example, beating out the floor mats and refilling the oil. Then comes the drive to a remote location. There the vehicle is caressed; the protagonist gets his BDSM outfit out of the trunk and performs sexual acts on and with the car. Besides the whipping of the rear, the penetration with the penis into the exhaust and the rectal insertion of the gearshift as well as the ejaculation on the windshield, no part of the car is left out. What remains, however, is more than sex: in the last scene, love is to be thematized and become part of the spectrum in which the car can be classified.
